New regulations for fire protection of buildings
On 22 December 2024, the Ordinance of the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration of 21 November 2024 came into force, amending the regulations for fire protection of buildings, other buildings and areas, which aims to improve fire safety in Poland. The changes introduced concern the introduction of an obligation to install devices detecting fire and carbon monoxide hazards (the so-called smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors), as well as the marking of places where fire separation walls are connected to the external wall and roof in large-area commercial, production and warehouse buildings, which is intended to facilitate firefighters’ fire-fighting actions. From the point of view of building users, the most important change is the obligation to install smoke detectors and chad detectors (if solid, liquid or gaseous fuels are burned in the room in question). This obligation applies to all newly constructed residential or hotel buildings. For existing hotel buildings, this obligation will come into force on 30 June 2026, while for existing residential buildings the installation of detectors must take place by 1 January 2030.
